Injured midfielder gets one-year contract extension

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has committed his future to the club by signing a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until 2024.

The 30-year-old, who was signed by Arsene Wenger in January 2016, is the Gunners’ longest-serving player and has been seen as a reliable backup option in midfield, aside from a brief loan spell at Turkish club Besiktas.

Elneny’s positive attitude and dedication to the club have been appreciated by staff and players, and the decision to extend his contract reflects Arsenal’s commitment to supporting their own during difficult times.

While it is unknown whether his wages have been affected by his injury, Elneny is pleased to have extended his stay at the club and is looking forward to contributing to the team’s success.

“I’m so happy, I love this club and our supporters so much and I’ll give everything to help us be the best we can be, every day I’m here.” the midfielder told Arsenal.com.

“It makes me so proud to have represented this amazing club since 2016. The spirit and togetherness we have in our squad right now is so positive and I’m so happy I have extended my contract.”

Manager Mikel Arteta has praised Elneny’s commitment and hinted that he would be retained, stating that the club values treating people with respect and supporting them during challenging times.

GunnerBanana’s POV

Just as we started to believe the club had established a system for awarding contracts aimed at constructing a formidable squad, they proceeded to extend Elneny’s contract.

While it is certainly compassionate to do so, similar to the gesture made towards an injured Carzola in the past, it is possible that the club is not exclusively considering players for the current squad. They are building a solid pool of managers for the future.

It has been reported that Elneny is pursuing his coaching badges, making him a potential future manager.

However, our midfield requires immediate rejuvenation and a wave of top talent.
