The remaining 16 teams in the Europa League, including those representing the Premier League, eagerly anticipate Friday’s draw, which will reveal their opponents from 11am onwards.
Arsenal secured a top spot in the group, thereby avoiding the play-off round that involved the group runners-up and third-placed teams from the Champions League. Manchester United, on the other hand, secured a remarkable victory over Barcelona in their play-off match.
The eight group winners will be seeded for the round of 16, ensuring that two group-topping teams cannot be drawn together.
In the previous edition of the competition, only West Ham United represented the Premier League at this stage, and they faced Sevilla, eventually prevailing in extra time. The first three play-off games were won by the Champions League sides, while Bayer Leverkusen claimed victory in a penalty shootout against Monaco.
The 8pm kick-offs, however, produced different outcomes, with Roma, Union Berlin, and Shakhtar Donetsk progressing to the next round.
GunnerBanana’s POV
As we keep our sights firmly set on the ultimate goal of securing the English Premier League Title, we can only hope that Manchester United are drawn against formidable opponents and have to travel to distant stadiums for their Europa League matches.
Let’s stay focused!
